About Pwani Region, Tanzania
Pwani Region is one of the thirty administative regions of Tanzania. The region is located in the coastal zone and borders the Indian Ocean to the east. The region's capital is in the town of Kibaha and is further subdivided into six districts: Bagamoyo, Kibaha, Mafia, Rufiji, Mkuranga, and Kisarawe. The region's population is at 1,098,668 with a size of about 32,407 square kilometres. Pwani Region got its name from the Swahili word for coast (pwani).
