About Mwanza Region

Mwanza Region is one of Tanzania's 30 administrative regions. The neighbouring regions are Shinyanga to the south, Kagera and Geita to the west, and Mara to the east. Toward the north, Mwanza is boarded by Lake Victoria the largest fresh water in Africa. Mwanza is considered as the heart of the Lake Region.

Mwanza region is the second largest in Tanzania and it is administratively divided into seven districts namely Ilemela Kwimba, Magu, Misungwi, Nyamagana, Sengerema and Ukerewe. Mwanza is a major industrial centre and a busy port. The region's tourism growth has grown tremendously due to its proximity to various national parks, including Rubondo National Park, Serengeti National Park among others.

You can access Mwanza region by air through Mwanza Airport which is located about 10 km from Mwanza city. There are direct domestic flights from Dar es Salaam, Arusha and several other places through connecting flights.

Attractions in Mwanza

Mwanza has numerous attraction sites that are major tourism boost within the area. They include Bukora Sukumu Village Museum, which is the first tribal museum in Tanzania that promotes the traditional heritage and contemporary arts of the Sukama people. Other attractions are Saanane Island National Park, Bismarck Rock located on the shores of Lake Victoria and Rubondo Island National Park
