Ziguinchor is in southwestern Senegal in Casamance Region. The city lies along the Casamance River and the region consists of three divisions namely – Ziguinchor, Oussouye and Bignona. Recorded to have been visited by Portuguese explorers in 1457 before being ceded to the French, Ziguinchor was a trading post.
