Tourism in Eastern Rwanda
Eastern Rwanda’s landscape is different from that of other parts in Rwanda. The province’s landscape is more East African with its flat savannah lands. The Akagera National Park is a major attraction in the area. The Akagera National Park, which is the land around the Akagera River, once occupied about 10% of Rwanda but now occupies about 1,122 square kilometres. The park’s biggest pull is perhaps the amazing mix of woodland habitats, swampy wetlands and jagged mountains all in one area. The park has over six lakes and many islands. This amazing ecology has made the park home to about 500 species of birds with some of the species rare and native to the area. Even though the park is undergoing rehabilitation, you will still find some amazing wildlife. You are free to self-drive around the park, but you will also find some guides willing to take you around.
