About Owo, Ondo State
Owo is a town in Ondo State that came into existence around 1100 AD when the people migrated from the city of Ile-Ife. The name ‘Owo’ was derived from the very first ruler of the ancient town, fondly referred to as Olowo, named Ojugbelu. The respectful behaviour of Ojugbelu earned him the name Owo, which means ‘to be respectful’. This name has been passed on from one ruler to another ever since.
Owo of today is an agricultural region that specializes in the cultivation and trading of farm produce such as okra, cotton, maize, yam, pepper, cassava and cocoa. In recent times, the city has been experiencing infrastructural development such as new road network, ultra-modern markets to name a few.
