Niger State is the biggest state by land area in Nigeria and is home to about 4 million people according to the 2006 National Population Census. The state is also known as the Power State because the top three hydroelectric power stations in Nigeria, the Kainji Power Station, the Jebba Power Station and the Shiroro Power Station are located in the state.
The capital of Niger is in the city of Minna and other important cities include Bida, Suleja. Kontagora, Lapai and Shiroro. The state is also famous for its numerous lakes and game reserves. The state is further divided in 25 local government areas.
