Modakeke is a town in Ife East Local Government Area of Osun State. The town shares a boundary with Ile-Ife, which is the ancestral home of the Yoruba people. Modakeke is 45 kilometres away from the state’s capital in Osogbo and 90 kilometres from the ancient city of Ibadan. Modakeke got its name from the sounds of the Ako (stork) birds when they first got to the land. Modakeke is also called Modakeke Akoraye. The town has a running battle with the Ife people on issues of supremacy and land boundaries. The population of the town is now in the hundreds of thousands and is growing rapidly.
