Katsina city is the capital of Katsina State in northern Nigeria. The city has its foundation in the Katsina Emirate, which is today ruled by an Emir. The city had an estimated population of 459,022 (est. 2007). The city is inhabited mainly by people of the Fulani and Hausa tribes. The city is also the home of the Katsina Local Government Area. Another major city in close proximity to Katsina city is Daura, whose son (General Muhammadu Buhari) became the president-elect of Nigeria on the 28th day of March, 2015.

Katsina City is surrounded by a wall dating back to about 900 years ago. The wall surrounds part of the city and still draws a lot of tourists. The palace of the Emir of Katsina also draws its own fair share of tourists. You should also check out the Gobarau Minaret. The 50-foot tall minaret stands on an ancient 18th century clay and mud mosque that is still standing to this day. The Katsina Teachers’ College was built in mud back in 1922 and is the oldest educational institution in the north.
