Esan land is the home of the people of Eshan (also spelt as Ishan). Esan is one of the major ethnic groups in Edo State, southwest Nigeria. The Esan land is made of 35 clans with notable places such as Uromi, Irrua, Ubiaja and Ekpoma. The area is situated about 65 kilometers from Benin City, the state capital. The Esans are traditionally farmers and hunters.
