About Quirimbas Archipelago, Mozambique
Quirimba Archipelago located off the coast of northern Mozambique is made up of 34 islands. Its island are on the tentative list of been made a UNESCO world heritage site. It was a major Arabian and Portuguese trading routes several decades ago. It is about 2,500 Km away from Maputo, a remote area which is considered as the last stretch of Eastern African coastline with beautiful beaches and spoiled natural areas. A large stretch of the southern Archipelago is protected by Quirimba National Park. The various islands have a rich natural and cultural heritage, featuring old Portuguese settlement and pre-colonial Swahili communities.
