Discover Sevare, Mali
Sevare is a crossroads town in the Mopti Region of Mali with a population of about 40,000. It is located about 10km from Mopti and provides easy access to other towns and cities such as Gao and Timbuktu to the north, Segou and Bamako to the southwest, Bandiagara to the east and internationally, Burkina Faso to the south. Sevare’s crossroad town feature has made it a popular tourist stopover fro intending tourists on their way to cities such as Timbuktu.
What To Do While At Sevare
While at Sevare, book an hotel to stay on your way to the World Heritage Committee-listed city of Timbuktu. Timbuktu was one of the most important places for Islamization in the early days and still has remnants of mosques still showing the use of traditional building tehniques. Sevare is also in close proximity with the town of Segou with its amazing neo-colonial architecture. Segou also has the Segou Koro, a village with red mud-brick houses built for the legendary Biton Mamary Coulibaly who was the king of Segou. Mopti,the region where Sevare is located, is one of the main ports of Mali and is good for a walk.
