Discover Bamako, Mali
Bamako is the capital city of the West African country, Mali. Bamako is Mali’s administrative centre and seat of power. The city is fast-growing and was estimated in 2006 to be Africa’s fastest growing city and only the sixth fastest in the world. Bamako got its name from the Bambara word meaning “crocodile river”. This may be because Bamako is in fact located on the River Niger and the river runs right through Bamako. For administrative reasons, the state/district of Bamako was divided into six communes, which can only be identified by numbers, i.e., Commune I through VI.
