Visiting Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage
The David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust started in 1977, founded by Daphne Sheldrick in honour of her husband David, who was a renowned conservationist. This wildlife sanctuary protects orphaned elephants.
Baby elephants whose mothers died in the hands of poachers or for other reasons are taken care of until they turn three years, then they are transferred into the wild plains of Tsavo East National Park. The Elephant Orphanage is located in Nairobi City, close to Nairobi National Park.
What to See in Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage
This wildlife sanctuary has raised about 150 baby elephants, and it is one of the most successful animal orphanages in the world. Visitors watch the baby elephants feeding and playing. Keepers feed these young animals from feeding bottles.
