Vallee du Bandama is one of the 19 regions in Cote D’Ivoire and has its capital in the city of Bouake. Vallee du Bandama is divided into five departments namely: Bouake, Beoumi, Dabakala, Katiola and Sakassou. The region has a 2010 population estimate of 1,538,484 inhabits spread over a land area of 28,530km2. Vallee du Bandama has one university located in the capital city named the University of Bouaké. The region houses the French and United Nations peacekeepers who are there to enforce a ceasefire between the government and rebel forces.

The largest lake (Lake Kossou) can be found in Vallee du Bandama. It lies in the very centre of the country on the Bandama river. The capital city of Bouake hosts one of the biggest carnivals in West Africa. The Bouake Carnival is held every year towards the end of March and the beginning of April at the famous St. Michael’s Cathedral. The Bouake Carnival is a celebration of life and tourists and natives alike gather to enjoy great music, the best of traditional foods as well as street parades and dances. For sports lovers, your favourite football stars Kolo and Yaya Toure were born in the capital city of Bouake. Vallee du Bandama has the Stade Bouake stadium in Bouake for sport activities.
