Lacs, Ivory Coast
Lacs is a region in Ivory Coast. Lacs is further divided into three departments: Tiebissou, Toumodi and Yamoussoukro ( which is also an autonomous city). The most popular city in the region is Yamoussoukro which is the administrative capital of Ivory Coast. The region has an estimated population of about 800,000. The Yamoussoukro Airport serves the area.
Points of Interest in Lacs
Most tourist attractions in the avs region are found in Yamoussoukro. Visit the Presidential Palace, which built by the country’s first president. Inside the Presidential Palace, there is an artificial lake with “sacred” man-eating crocodiles. These crocodiles are fed fresh meat everyday and people are allowed to see them. Perhaps the biggest attraction in the region, the Basilica of Our Lady of Peace which is believed to be the biggest cathedral in the world. Styled after the Basilica of Saint Peter in the Vatican City, the cathedral was built at a cost of 300 millioon US dollars and has an area of 30,000 square metres. You can also visit the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Foundation and the various universities in the region.
