Tarkwa is the capital of the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Municipal district. It is located in the Western Region southwest of Southern Ghana. The town is renowned as a gold and manganese mining site, the Tarkwa Mine is noted as one of the largest gold mines in Southern Ghana. The town boasts of the prestigious University of Mines and technology.
