About Fort Amsterdam, Ghana
The Fort Amsterdam is a small castle, built by the English in the 15th century. The Fort sits on a hill overlooking a beautiful coconut palm beach in the fishing village of Abandze. The Amsterdam Fort is located in Kormantin-Abandze, Central region of Ghana. During the colonial era, it served as the headquarters of the English Gold Coast, storage for slaves heading for Europe and a commodity warehouse.
The Fort is operated by the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board and currently open to the public.
