About North Wello
North Wello or North Wollo also known as Semien Wollo. It is one of the 10 zones of the Amhara Region, bordered to the west by Debub Gondar (South Gondar) and to the south by Debub Wollo (South Wollo).
The zone has two main cities situated within it, Lalibela and Weldiya, where Weldyi is the capital city of the Zone. The Mille River also flows through the zone, and also the 6th tallest mountain in Ethiopia is situated here, Mount Abuna Yosef. North Wollo is also filled with quite a number of World Heritage sites, which are mostly situated in Lalibela city.

The major attractions in the North Wello Zone are the churches carved from rocks. Several of these churches are spread out throughout the zone. There are 11 churches in Lalibela the North Wello Zone, where Bete Medhane Alem, Bete Emmanuel, Bete Maryam and Bete Giyorgis are the most popular.
Most of them date back to the 12th and 13th century and are all regarded as UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Mount Abuna Yosef is another point of interest in North Wollo, there are four notable churches built inside the caves in the mountain.
