One of the 26 regions of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kasai Oriental was created from the Tshilenge district and is home to members of the Luba tribe. The area is famous for its diamonds and it is reported to mine one-tenth of the world’s industrial diamond. French is the major language which makes it easy for most European visitors to be able to communicate with the locals easily but the local language Tshiluba is still widely spoken. The capital of the Kasai region is Mbuji-Mayi and it has the highest concentration of diamonds in the world.
