Abong-Mbang is a mostly French-speaking commune after the town was seized from the French at the end of the war. It is a crossroads town with exports from the far-east province of Cameroon passing through the town. Abong-Mbang farms and produces agricultural products such as cocoa, maize, groundnuts and cassava and yam tubers making agriculture the mainstay of the economy of the town. Abong-Mbang is also home to a large forest area which makes logging and timber cutting another source of income for residents. The town has a football team, Union Abong-Mbong FC that is strongly supported locally.
