Port Novo is the capital of Benin Republic, it also served as the capital of the old French Dahomey. The word Porto Novo is of Portuguese origin meaning “New Port”. The city was originally developed as a port for slave trade, it is a port located on an inlet of the Gulf of Guinea. Porto Novo is Benin’s second largest city after Cotonou. The industrial produce include: cotton, kapok and palm oil.
