Abomey is a commune and city in the Zou Department of Benin. The city had a population 90,185 people as of 2012 and has a land area of 142 square kilometres. Other communes in Zou department include Bohicon. Agbangnizoun, Djidja, Ouinhi and four others. The city is the former seat of power of the ancient Kingdom of Dahomey, which is today the Republic of Benin. Abomey is a centre for the popular Voodoo religion in Benin where spirits such as Cokou are worshipped.
