Yopougon (or "Yop City") is the largest suburb in the western half of Abidjan, the capital city of the Ivory Coast.
The closest airport is Abidjan Felix Houphouet Boigny International, which is around 8 miles to the south-east. To get to Yopougon, you can either drive along the Expressway from the airport, or hail a woro woro (taxi) or board a gbaka (minibus) to get to your hotel.
Youthful and constantly changing, Yopougon is the artistic and musical hub of a dynamic urban destination. It's the place to go to sample the nightlife and food of Abidjan's famous "maquis" restaurants, but has a serious side too, being home to the Cathedral of Saint-Andre, one of the holiest sites in the Ivory Coast. A great idea for visitors is to take water taxi from Yop City into the centre of town, a great way to see the lagoon and the waterfront.
Some of the things to see in the town are the thermal power plant Azito, the University Hospital of Yopougon and ORSTOM research center. There is easy access to places like Cocody and Abidjan itself so visitors can easily move around sightseeing the city and its vicinity.
