Uyo is the state capital of Akwa Ibom, world renowned as a premier producer of oil. Situated in the far south of Nigeria, this city is home to more than half a million and one of the fast-growing settlements in the country.
Uyo is well served by road, rail and air. The city can be accessed via the A342 highway, with an excellent intra-city road network. Foreign visitors are best served by Margaret Ekpo International Airport, around 95 kilometres away in nearby Calabar, Nigeria.

Uyo is the capital city of Akwa Ibom. It was created in the late 1980s from the large cross river state which still holds a big influence on the historical culture of the city till date.
