Uganda Wildlife Education Centre (UWEC) is an animal sanctuary located in Entebbe. It was established in 1952 to protect endangered animals that were either abandoned or were sought after by poachers. The sanctuary became a zoo in the 60s, and a wildlife education centre in the 90s.
Uganda Wildlife Education Centre (UWEC) is situated in Entebbe, about 10 minutes drive from Entebbe International Airport.
This centre is home to over 200 animals and 250 birds species, thus a great location for viewing wildlife and birding. The animals live in outdoor enclosures designed to resemble natural habitat.
Two major ecosystems in the centre are savannah and forest vegetation.
In addition to the beauty and diversity of the education centre, its location on the shores of Lake Victoria makes it an ideal stopover when visiting the lake.
