Sunyani is the capital of the Brong-Ahafo Region in western Ghana. The city started out as an elephant hunters' camp during the 19th century and has grown into a thriving regional city which is home to several of Ghana's notable higher education institutions.
While Sunyani does have an airport, it is for short-range domestic flights only. The closest airport for international flights is Kumasi Airport, a distance of 107km away. There is plenty of overland transportation and many choose to travel onwards using the MetroMass buses, taxi or a local tro tro, a minibus service that leaves when all the seats are full.
