History Fishing Archaeology Game Drive

In 1997, Sibiloi National Park became a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of Lake Turkana National Parks. Sibiloi National Park, popularly referred to as "Cradle of Mankind" protects fossils' sites of a human skull, petrified forest, elephant fossil and the shell and limb bones of a giant tortoise.

Major Attractions in Sibiloi National Park

  • Sibiloi National Park is home to a range of wildlife including zebras, giraffes, hippos, crocodiles, Grant's gazelles, topi, greater kudu, lions, cheetahs, leopards, striped hyenas, silver-backed jackals.
  • Breeding grounds for the Nile crocodile, hippopotamus and a variety of venomous snakes.
  • Lake Turkana, the world's largest alkaline and permanet desert lake, changs colour from blue to grey depending on light and wind which causes the algae particles to shift.

  • The Turkana, the Gabra and the Dassanach communities have rich cultures with traditional cultures that have been safeguarded for hundreds of years. The Samburu and Rendile migrate to Lake Turkana during the dry season.

Directions to Sibiloi Park

Sibiloi Park has 3 gates namely; Karsa gate, Alia bay and Koobi Fora. 

These can be accessed by road with a 4WD or by air. The closes airstrips are Lodwar, Marsabit and Loiyangalani.

From Nairobi, the capital of Kenya, Sibiloi park is a three day drive if you're going through Marsabit and North Horr, or Maralal and South Horr. The alternative route is to travel by road from Nairobi to Kalokol on the lake’s western shores, which goes thrugh Kitale and Lodwar. From Kalokol, you can hire a boat to get across the lake to Aliabay.
