The Rwenzori National Park is located in the Rwenzori Mountains, Africa's third highest mountain peak. Rwenzori National Park was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site cause of its natural beauty. The park is said to have the most beautiful flora in the world. Rwenzori Park is located in South Western Uganda, at its border with DR Congo.
Rwenzori park boasts numerous glaciers, waterfalls and lakes: contributing to its beauty. In addition, the park is home to numerous plant and animal species. The equatorial snow peaks include the third highest point in Africa, while the lower slopes are blanketed in moorland, bamboo and rich, moist forest. Huge tree-heather and colorful mosses are draped across the mountainside.
Rwenzori National Park is known for its world class hiking and mountaineering provisions. There are 6 peaks in Rwenzori Park separated by deep gorges.
The mountain range is about 120 km long and 65 km wide. A nine- to twelve-day trek will get skilled climbers to the summit of Margherita – the highest peak – though shorter, non-technical treks are possible to scale the surrounding peaks.
For those who prefer something a little less strenuous, neighboring Bakonzo villages offer nature walks, homestead visits home cultural performances and accommodation, including home-cooked local cuisine.
