Pangani is a district in Tanga region with Pangani City as its headquaters. Pangani is 50 km from Tanga town. Located right next to the beach, Pangani is truly a tropical and unspoiled paradise.
Pangani was at one time one of the Swahili coast's main centers for trade with Africa's mainland. The main trading commodities were ivory and slaves. Pangani has over the years maintained most of its traditional Swahili character with sights of a number of crumbling old buildings.
While on tour in Pangani, take time to explore the town and its vicinity. You could also take a boat trip to the Pangani river or Maziwe Island, where snorkelling is a popular water sport. Better still stroll around the beach as you watch the breathtaking ocean views.
If you are a lover of aquaculture, you can also fish at the Pangani River, which supports a nice fishing industry. Also close to Pangani is the West Usambara Mountain Reserve in the town of Lushoto. At the reserve, you can see what is left of the Usambara forest and enjoy some greenery.
