Nyeri Town is the capital and largest town of Nyeri County located about 150km from Nairobi. Nyeri Town has a colourful colonial history following the setup of army barracks and later becoming a trade centre for farmers who produced wheat, coffee, and tea. Nyeri was also the epicentre of decolonisation of Kenya, the beginnings of the global Scouting Movement and the Second World War
Today Nyeri Town is most visited as the gateway for holidays in the beautiful Aberdare National Park. Here lucky visitors can enjoy a breathtaking glimpse of the rare white rhino.
Since Nyeri Town is surrounded by three game parks, Mt. Kenya National Park, Aberdares National Park and Solio Game Reserve, outdoor activities of all kinds whether it is hiking, trout fishing or mountain climbing can be enjoyed.
Nyeri is the perfect destination for history enthusiasts to visit the Italian War Memorial at Mathari, a poignant commemoration of the Second World War. Purpose to visit the grave of Lord Baden-Powell who lived in the town with his wife and started the Scouts movement.

Access to this green and fertile part of Kenya is through Nairobi Airport, a drive of around 3 hours through stunning landscapes. Getting around the town itself is easy on a good network of well-maintained roads using taxis or the local minibuses known as matatu.
