The National Arts Theater is the main center for the performing arts in Nigeria. Located in Iganmu in the Surulere axis of Lagos, the monument houses the collection of National Gallery of Modern Nigerian Arts. The theater was constructed during the military regime of Olusegun Obasanjo, as such, it has the shape of a military hat. It has some resemblance to the Palace of Culture and Sports in Varna, Bulgaria. However, National Arts Theater Lagos is the bigger of the two. It was constructed to promote, preserve and present arts and promote arts and culture in Nigeria. Its main hall has a 5000-sitting capacity with a collapsible stage.
