Nanyuki is situated on the leeward side of Kenya’s highest mountain – Mount Kenya - right on the equator. The town is popular for its picturesque views, ranches, conservancies and game parks.
Nanyuki houses the main airbase of the Kenya Air Force as well as the British Army from where desert and jungle exercises are conducted.
Besides the town being a stopover for adventurers looking to climb the mountain, Nanyuki is also a pitstop town for tourists heading to the norther regions of Samburu, Marsabit and Isiolo.
In Nanyuki, the main fun activity is mountain climbing popular among backpackers. Sirmon and Burguret routes are the most frequented routes in climbing Mount Kenya.
There are wildlife conservancies in close proximity to Nanyuki for game viewing of the big 5, nature walks, bird watching and cultural tours. These conservancies are Ngare Ndare Forest, Ol Pejeta and Sweetwaters which focus on the conservation of the black rhino, mountain elephant and African lion.
Other activities to engage in during your stay at Nanyuki are horse riding, biking, camping, river fishing and camel riding.
