Murtala Muhmamed Airport is an international airport located in Ikeja, the capital city of Lagos State, Nigeria. It is the only airport serving the whole state.
The airport was first constructed during the second world war and is named after Murtala Muhammed, who was the first military ruler in Nigeria. Originally, it was named Lagos International Airport but was later renamed to Murtala Muhammed International Airport in the mid 90’s.
The international terminal of the airport has a resemblance to Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. Murtala Muhammed International Airport is made up of a domestic terminal and an international terminal, with a distance of about one kilometer apart. However, both terminals use the same runways. The domestic terminal used to be called the old Ikeja Airport. The International operations was relocated to the new international airport after it was constructed and domestic operations was relocated to the Ikeja Airport, which was then turned to the domestic airport. The headquarters of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria is located in the airport. The head office of the Accident Investigation Bureau is also located within the airport.

Murtala Muhammed International Airport is located 22km (14 miles) northwest of Lagos in the suburb of Ikeja. The easiest way to travel from the airport to the cities is to use the taxis available in the premises.
