Msasani is an administrative ward in the Kinondoni district of the Dar es Salaam Region of Tanzania. Msasani has some of the wealthiest areas in the Dar es Salaam Region – Peninsula, Oysterbay and Masaki. These areas have shops, restaurants, beauty salons, pubs, large bazaar selling local crafts at Slipway hotel/mall as well as entertainment facilities.
The ward is a plush residential area, with several large villas owned by members of the Tanzanian political and economic elites.
Public transportation in the area is majorly offered by daladalas. Their main end stations are Msasani on Kimweri Avenue and Masaki near the Sea Cliff Hotel. From Slipway, motored dhows provide connection to the island of Bongoyo.
Moving around in this town may be slightly difficult if you do not own a car.
Coco Beach on the eastern side of the Peninsula is a popular holiday and weekend destination especially for local residents at weekends.
Restaurants, beauty salons, pubs, and other entertainment facilities are nearby.
The Slipway also has a small arts cinema, an art gallery, service apartments and a Shoprite supermarket.
The Dar es Salaam Yacht Club, along with the Gymkhana Club, one of the principal sports’ and recreational clubs in the city, is located a short distance to the north.
Other amenities in the area include several hotels, the Colosseum fitness centre, numerous bars and clubs, and the Little Theatre, with its regular English-language productions.
