Kirkos sometimes called Cherkos, Kerkos or Kirikos is a district in the Ethiopia’s capital city of Addis Ababa. Kirkos is located in the centre of Addis Ababa and shares its borders with the districts of Arada, Bole, Yeka, Nifas Silk-Lafto and Lideta.
Transportation in Kirkos
Kirkos is served by the Addis Ababa Bole International Airport for those who travel from and to other cities, both locally and internationally. Intra-city transport is via the public minibuses or using the blue and white share taxis. A light rail system is also functional in the city and connects the district of Kirkos to the other districts.
Visit the Meskel Square. The Meskel Square is the venue for the Meskel Festival, which has been holding for the past 1,600 years towards the end of September.
Take the less than 15 minutes drive to Meyazia 27 Square and see the imposing Arat Kilo monument with its history of imperialism and the Ethiopian victory over fascist Italian invaders.
While at Kirkos, you must check out the Ethiopia Ethnological Museum (former Haile Selassie’s palace) and enjoy the sights and culture of one of Africa’s best museums.
