Kalakuta Museum also known as Kalakuta Republic Museum was home to Late Fela Anikulapo Kuti, his family and his band members in the 1970s until he died in 1997. Kalakuta Museum used to be a recording studio and commune to the late musician. The name Kalakuta was an imitation of the prison cell called Calcutta that Fela inhabited when he was jailed. The museum has a five-room guest house, a souvenir and coffee shop. The grave of the late musician is located just by the entrance of the museum. On display in the museum are the personal effects of the late musician such as the rack where he used to keep his shoes with the pairs of shoes placed on it, his clothes and underpants, old album covers, newspaper clippings, and many of his paintings and photographs. The major attraction of the museum is the bedroom of the late singer which is still the same way he left it.
