Kakamega Forest is the only tropical rainforest in Kenya. The sheer abundance of birdlife here is overwhelming. Kakamega Forest is also home to a great many beautiful Butterflies. The reserve has over 100 species of trees, as well as numerous other plants and flowers.
Explore a wonderland of trees, flowers, birds, butterflies and many small animals, escorted by an assortment of chattering monkeys.
Kakamega is best explored on foot or in a 4WD Vehicle. The forest has many clearly marked walking trails.

The forest reserve is opened year-round but January, Februrary and August, September are driest making it easire for nature walks and camping.
The shortest route from Nairobi (418 km) is via Nakuru and Kapsabet. Take the A104 road to Timboroa and after 4 km join C36 road to Kapsabet from there take the C39 road until it joins the Kisumu – Kakamega road.
