IITA Forest Reserve in Ibadan covers 350 hectares and holds an exotic assortment of plant and animal life. It's a project created as a part of the renowned International Institute of Tropical Agriculture’s Natural Resource Management. The forest reserve is one of the few forested areas in western Nigeria.
IITA Forest Reserve is well known as a birdwatcher’s paradise. Over 440 species of botanical plants of which 90% are medicinal can be found, 200 species of birds and 220 butterfly species are housed in the reserve. A rich diversity plants and fauna are housed in the forest reserve.
A lake which attracts hundreds of resident and migratory birds with various fish species is a major attraction for fishing.
The Forest Reserve organizes bird watching, tree planting and ‘walks on the wild side’ events.
