The capital of northern Cameroun, Garoua is a thriving port and textile manufacturing centre. If you want to pick up cotton fabrics or leather goods, there are few better destinations in the Cameroun. But there's more to the city than shopping. It's also a religious centre, thanks to the Grande Mosquee de Poumpomere and a sporting hub as well due to the successes of Coton Sport FC. Domestic carriers fly into Garoua International Airport, making it easy to reach as well.
Garoua is a great place to visit if you love nature and want to find out about the diverse wildlife of Cameroun. The city is the gateway to the Benoue National Park, a massive reservation that features west African lions, spotted hyenas, hippopotamus colonies and various species of antelope. Because it's so close to the city, Benoue is the ideal location to see some of Africa's rarest and most inspiring animals.
