Emali is a popular highway town on Mombasa Road that serves as a pitstop for safari vehicles to Tsavo West before branching off towards Oloitoktok. Truck and bus drivers from Mombasa also regularly make a stop here before proceeding on to Nairobi. As such, Emali has become a vibrant small town with a market popular for its fruits and vegetables. Other souvenirs tourists can buy from here include sisal baskets and the traditional gourds and calabashes.
There are several fuel stations with convenience stores making Emali a convenient place for refuelling, washroom break as well as buying supplies you may need for your journey.
You can board a bus at Nairobi's main bus station commonly referred to as Machakos Bus Station. The Madaraka Express Train is a faster option to get to Emali.
If driving from Nairobi via Mombasa Road, the journey takes 2.5 hours (130km).
