The Dimonika Biosphere Reserve is located in the central chain of the Mayombe Mountains, in the Kouilou department in south-west Congo. Registered as a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1988, this reserve is predominantly occupied by a tropical forest and savannah vegetation. The fauna in this reserve is diverse and varied.
In this reserve, you will find the village of Dimonika and the mountain massif of Mayombe. There you will discover the glorious past of the Dimonika mines through ancient gold mines, excavation sites, underground caves, machines used to work and transport gold. The population is warm and the landscape of the area is beautiful.
