Bafoussam is one of western Cameroun's most attractive, exciting destinations and is famous for its coffee production, huge markets and the pulsating nightlife of the Akwa neighbourhood.
The city is the centre of trade for the Bamileke people.
Getting to Bafoussam is easy. The closest international airport is Douala International, although Yaounde is also within reach. Both airports are about 200 miles away from the city, but you can take a combination of Camrail and buses to get there. Or you could fly to the city's own airport via domestic services. In town, taxis are the main form of transport and are extremely cheap.
The main attraction in Bafoussam is Akwa, a bustling district full of bars, restaurants and music clubs. It's a great place to find street food and kebabs, as well as a great night of entertainment.
The city regularly hosts Bamileke festivals (the major local ethnic group) and is just a great place to experience a slice of authentic Cameroun life.
