Cricket fans around the world are ready for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015!

Pakistan is one of the many countries where cricket is huge and the whole country is awaiting seeing their favorite team play. The official jersey for Pakistan cricket team was unveiled when Pepsi, the official cricket sponsors, held an event where celebrities, the cricket team and fans were all present. Old jingles, commercials and songs were played which kept the mood upbeat and spirits high and reminded fans of Pakistan’s cricket glory. And of course, many selfies were taken – Boom Boom Afridi leading the brigade!

Since the World Cup has started, we will share some fun facts (as well as useful information) with you on this blog. Did you know:

  • The 1992 World Cup, where Pakistan won, was also hosted in Australia!
  • Shahid Afridi has a unique record of taking four wickets or more wickets in a match in four World Cups
  • Australia is the only team which has won 4 world cups in which three World Cup wins came in a row (1997, 2003 & 2007)
  • England is the only nation which has hosted most number of World Cups (4) the next is Pakistan and India (2-both jointly)
  • The 1987 World Cup was the first ever world cup which was held outside England.
  • The 1992 World Cup was the first ever world cup, where white balls were used and day and night games were played with colour
  • Sachin Tendulkar of India is the highest run getter in the World Cup history; he has scored 2, 278 runs in 6 World Cups.
  • The Pakistani captain in this World Cup is the same age as our captain was in the 1992 World Cup.

The ICC World Cup 2015 started on February 14th, and Pakistan unfortunately lost their first match (against India!). To date, Pakistan has never won an ODI against India. In the 2011 World Cup, Pakistan reached the semi-finals, where they had to play against India where they were defeated and had to exit the tournament.

With just the beginning of the World Cup, the anticipation and excitement is building amongst cricket lovers! Stay tuned on Jovago.net to follow match updates! We can’t wait for the matches to begin, and have high expectations (and hope) for our cricket team! Good Luck Team Pakistan!
