Traveling is not only for adventure, nature or relaxation. It’s 2019 and traveling round the country, continent or the world hopping from one literary festival to the other is quite catching on among book and art lovers.

There are quite a number of them and we present to you this list with all the details we currently have which will be updated as time goes on. Lagos is home to a majority of the literary festivals. So you also want to start planning a visit to Lagos if you’ve never been to the city.

Lagos Book and Art Festival

The Lagos Book and Art Festival would have its 21st edition this year from November 4th to November 10th with the theme Emerge..breaking into the New. Activities at the festival include film screenings and documentaries, panels and workshops, presentations and so much more.

Lagos International Poetry Festival

Started in 2015 The Lagos International Poetry Festival has brought together poets, thinkers, scholars, lovers of poetry and letters together from all over the world to a week long event of celebrating Poetry, Art and Music. 2019’s event is expected to take place later in the year between October and November.

Ake Festival

The Ake Festival having been held in Abeokuta in its first 5 editions was held in Lagos in 2018 and looks set to hold again in Lagos in 2019 on the 24th to 27th of October. It is Nigeria’s most prestigious literary festival and has brought some of the biggest writing names across Africa and beyond to it’s annual event. Kaduna Book and Arts Festival

The brainchild of BookBuzz Foundation, the organizers of Ake Festival, KABAFEST which is the first of its kind in Northern Nigeria is in its 3rd year. Dates and programme details will be announced later so you may need to bookmark this page.

Nigeria International Book Fair

The 18th Nigeria International Book Fair (NIBF 2019) will hold from Monday, May 6th to Saturday, May 11th at Jelili Adebisi Omotola Hall (formerly Multi-purpose Hall), University of Lagos, Akoka, Lagos State. The Nigeria International Book Fair is an event that brings together publishers, authors together with the book loving public as well as marketers and retailers and provides an opportunity for book lovers to buy books at a cheaper price than usual.

Niyi Osundare Literary Festival

To be held in Ibadan, with specific dates and venue to be confirmed, the Niyi Osundare Literary Festival is held in honour of literature giant, Prof. Niyi Osundare.

Abuja Literary Festival

The Abuja Literary Festival is the brainchild of the Abuja Literary Society which has been in existence for the past 20 years. The festival this year will hold between June and July and we will be sure to keep you updated on the dates as well as the programme of events but you should check the website for more details.

Crater Literary Festival

In its third year, the Crater Literary Festival is an annual gathering of writers, readers, publishers, artists and art aficionados in Enugu. The Crater Literary Festival features a variety of presentations and readings by authors, spoken word artists, poets, and theatre groups.
